Developmental Staging ExperimentBelow is a line drawing of an embryo in the cleveage period. The arrow points to the site of cell division. The embryo is in the four cell stage. After the 128th cell stage, the embryo enters the blastula period. Asynchronious cell division continues and eventual leads into epiboly where the cells circle around the embryo. Below is a line drawing of an embryo at 50% epiboly. The arrows point to the cells. As epiboly continues, the embryo is in the gastrula period. Next, the eyes and somites form in the segmentation period. The picture below is of an embryo in the segmentation period. Now that you have some background information, feel free to continue on to the real experiment. Good luck! We would like to thank Dr. Pat Edwards from the University of Oregon for the above line drawings.
